Cowboy Space Corp. has successfully secured $275 million in a recent Series B funding round, raising its valuation to $2 billion. The funding was led by Index Ventures and included contributions from new and existing investors such as IVP and Andreessen Horowitz.
Founded in 2024 by Baiju Bhatt, who is also the co-founder of Robinhood, the company is focused on developing innovative satellites that function as data centers, utilizing solar energy sourced from orbit. This approach aims to alleviate challenges linked to the increasing energy demands and environmental constraints of traditional data centers.
Earlier this year, Cowboy Space established an office in Seattle dedicated to satellite and rocket engineering. The company plans to employ between 40-60 staff members, with current job openings across various engineering roles. Industry veterans David Larson and Warren Lamont will lead the new office, which is set to compete for talent in Seattle's vibrant aerospace sector.
The startup is also collaborating with NVIDIA for its Space-1 Vera Rubin Modules and intends to launch its first satellite later this year to showcase power beaming technology from space to Earth.
