CD Projekt has divested its video game storefront, GOG, to co-founder Michał Kiciński for approximately $25 million. This decision allows CD Projekt to concentrate on its forthcoming video game projects, as stated in a recent announcement. GOG, launched in 2008 as Good Old Games, has been part of CD Projekt for nearly twenty years, offering a curated selection of DRM-free games.
In a press release, CD Projekt co-CEO Michał Nowakowski expressed gratitude to the GOG team for their collaboration and indicated that the platform is in capable hands with Kiciński. He affirmed that the sale aligns with the company's strategic focus on expanding its franchises with high-quality content. GOG's Managing Director, Maciej Gołębiewski, noted the platform's commitment to game preservation and accessibility in a rapidly evolving market.
Existing GOG customers will experience minimal changes, retaining their game libraries and offline installers. Furthermore, CD Projekt has agreed to continue releasing future titles on GOG, ensuring a shared vision for the platform's role in the gaming landscape.
