Reports of significant disruptions in Verizon’s wireless services have surged, with over 181,000 outages logged on DownDetector by peak times. Users across the eastern United States, particularly in cities like Boston, New York, and Washington D.C., are facing difficulties with voice calls and data connectivity. Many customers have noticed their devices displaying “SOS” instead of the usual network bars.
While text messaging remains operational for some users, the overall impact on Verizon’s network is considerable. In contrast, competing carriers such as AT&T and T-Mobile experienced far fewer outage reports, with AT&T peaking at only 1,769 reports, suggesting a significant disparity in the scale of the issues faced by Verizon.
Verizon has publicly acknowledged the situation via its news account on X, stating that their engineering teams are actively working to identify and resolve the problem as quickly as possible. The company expressed understanding of the inconvenience caused and emphasized their commitment to restoring reliable connectivity.
