Customers of Verizon experienced a significant service interruption on Wednesday, impacting both voice and data services from approximately noon until after 10 PM ET. In response, the company announced it will provide a $20 credit to affected users' accounts to help alleviate the inconvenience. This credit can be redeemed via the MyVerizon app, according to the carrier's statement on X.
Verizon acknowledged the outage, stating, "Yesterday, we did not meet the standard of excellence you expect, and that we expect of ourselves." The company suggested that users facing ongoing service issues should restart their devices to reconnect to the network efficiently.
In light of the disruption, New York State Assemblyman Anil Beephan Jr. has requested an investigation from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The FCC has confirmed it is monitoring the situation, with Commissioner Anna Gomez expressing her commitment to investigating the widespread reports of outages affecting primarily Verizon customers.
This incident marks the latest major service disruption for Verizon, which last faced a significant outage during Labor Day weekend of the previous year. Major cities such as New York, Washington, and Los Angeles were among those heavily impacted.
