TerraPower, a nuclear energy firm based in Bellevue, Wash., has launched a subsidiary office in the United Kingdom as part of its goal to establish its first international power plant. This expansion highlights the company's commitment to supporting the UK’s transition towards a cleaner energy landscape.
In October 2025, TerraPower submitted its Generic Design Assessment (GDA) application, which received formal acceptance from the UK’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero in February. The firm has now commenced Step 1 of the GDA process, emphasizing its serious intent to become a reliable partner in the nuclear sector.
With a focus on next-generation nuclear technology, TerraPower aims to deliver reactors that are not only safer but also more cost-effective and quicker to deploy than traditional models. The company is currently developing its Natrium demonstration plant in Kemmerer, Wyo., which features a 345-megawatt sodium-cooled fast reactor.
As part of its expansion, TerraPower is also collaborating with Meta to construct up to eight Natrium reactors across the U.S., with plans for the first two to be operational by 2032. This growth into the UK market marks a significant step in the company’s global strategy.
