Starbucks is undergoing a significant restructuring within its technology division, driven by recent leadership changes. The company appointed Anand Varadarajan as its new chief technology officer, who transitioned from Amazon four months ago.
Employees in various technology roles, including program and product management, reported job losses on LinkedIn, although the exact number of positions affected remains unknown. The company has not provided further details on the cuts.
According to an internal message, Starbucks aims to implement structural changes to enhance its operational efficiency and focus on key priorities. CEO Brian Niccol is overseeing this transformation, which includes ambitious technology initiatives, such as developing an AI-driven drink-ordering assistant.
Despite these job cuts, Starbucks reaffirmed its commitment to expansion, announcing a $100 million investment in a new corporate office in Tennessee, expected to create up to 2,000 jobs in the region.
