In a significant development, SpaceX has revealed plans to potentially acquire the AI firm Cursor for an astounding $60 billion. This acquisition option comes as SpaceX collaborates with Cursor to enhance AI capabilities aimed at coding and knowledge-based tasks. The partnership aims to leverage Cursor's innovative product alongside SpaceX's powerful Colossus training supercomputer.
Cursor, launched in 2023, is recognized for its coding application and was valued at $2.5 billion during a $105 million funding round last year. The ambitious valuation for the acquisition suggests that SpaceX perceives the worth of Cursor's technology to be significantly higher than its previous valuation, estimating it at nearly 24 times that amount. The deal could materialize later this year, offering Cursor up to $10 billion or leading to a full purchase.
As SpaceX eyes this acquisition, it also aims for a targeted IPO valuation of $1.75 trillion, planning to raise $75 billion from investors. Should SpaceX proceed with the Cursor acquisition, it would utilize a considerable portion of its fundraising efforts before the IPO is finalized.
