Snowflake Inc. is reportedly negotiating to acquire observability startup Observe Inc. for approximately $1 billion. This potential transaction would mark Snowflake's largest acquisition to date. The Information disclosed that the deal could significantly enhance Snowflake's capabilities in monitoring cloud infrastructure.
Observe offers a cloud-based observability platform that enables companies to track latency spikes, server outages, and other technical issues. Its unique approach utilizes a custom query syntax known as OPAL, which improves time-based analyses compared to traditional SQL queries. This platform can monitor Snowflake environments, identifying threats like malicious data access and insecure user accounts.
The partnership between the two companies has already been established, with Observe's platform built on Snowflake's infrastructure. In June, Snowflake's venture capital arm supported Observe's funding round, which raised $156 million and saw the startup's revenue triple year-over-year. As the demand for observability solutions grows, the proposed acquisition positions Snowflake to compete with existing providers such as Splunk.
