Katú, a family-run yerba mate company based in Sebastopol, has gained traction in the beverage market with its ready-to-drink canned products. Launched last year, the brand offers two varieties—roasted and unroasted—crafted from organic leaves sourced from Paraguay, aged for a minimum of 18 months. The drinks are now available at various locations, including Oliver's Market and independent grocery stores like El Rey in Rohnert Park.
Co-founder Arturo Diaz, a native of Paraguay, has a deep-rooted connection to yerba mate, reflecting his cultural heritage in the brand. The company, which recently emerged from Tuka, a Santa Rosa-based incubator, has been steadily developing since its inception in 2016. Diaz initially sought inspiration from Guayaki and worked to establish a supply chain by collaborating with around 60 farmers in Paraguay.
In a competitive market dominated by established brands, Katú distinguishes itself through its unique aging process for the leaves, contributing to a product that honors traditional yerba mate consumption. Diaz’s commitment to quality and cultural representation continues to drive the company’s growth.
