Samsung's recent agreement to prevent a strike at its chipmaking facilities has been confirmed, ensuring operations will continue without interruption. This deal comes in the wake of heightened union activity triggered by competitive bonuses offered by rival SK Hynix, which prompted Samsung to enhance its own compensation packages.
Approximately 57,302 Samsung chip employees are projected to receive an average bonus of 513 million won (about $340,000), while estimates from Yonhap suggest bonuses could reach 600 million won for around 28,000 workers in the chip division. Additionally, the agreement includes a 6.2% salary increase and a home loan option.
Following the deal's approval, Samsung shares climbed by 8%. The company is poised to rank as the second highest in operating profit globally this year, just behind Saudi Aramco, and its earnings are among the top 20 worldwide.
A significant majority, 73.7% of union members, voted in favor of the agreement, alleviating concerns over potential supply chain disruptions in high bandwidth memory (HBM) crucial for AI development.
