The four-month-old AI startup Recursive Superintelligence has secured at least $500 million in funding, achieving a pre-money valuation of $4 billion. The investment round, which was led by GV, formerly known as Google Ventures, included participation from Nvidia and was notably oversubscribed, potentially allowing Recursive to raise up to $1 billion.
Founded by Richard Socher, who was previously the chief scientist at Salesforce, and Tim Rocktäschel, an AI professor at University College London, the startup's team comprises around 20 members, including former researchers from OpenAI and alumni from Google and Meta. While Recursive Superintelligence aims to develop an AI that can continuously enhance itself autonomously, the project is still in the research phase and has not yet undergone extensive testing.
Many experts believe that achieving a form of recursive self-improvement could be essential for the development of superintelligence, which refers to AI that significantly exceeds human cognitive abilities. The startup has not yet launched its product but is focusing on advancing its innovative concepts in artificial intelligence.
