Gamers in the US may soon receive a share of a $7.85 million settlement related to a class-action lawsuit against Sony Interactive Entertainment. This lawsuit, Caccuri v. Sony Interactive Entertainment, claims that Sony unlawfully restricted competition in the digital game market by discontinuing game-specific vouchers that enabled customers to purchase games from various online retailers.
The legal action alleges that this practice forced customers to pay inflated prices for digital games on the PlayStation Store, thus violating antitrust regulations. Although Sony has denied any wrongdoing, the court has tentatively approved the settlement, which remains subject to a final hearing scheduled for October 15.
During this hearing, the court will confirm the settlement amount, designate up to 25% for legal fees, and outline the distribution plan for eligible class members. Individuals who qualify will have funds credited directly to their PlayStation Network wallets after the hearing. Those who have disabled their accounts can still claim their share by providing qualifying purchase details to [email protected].
