In a strategic move to enhance its offerings, Peloton has acquired Skōp, a company known for its innovative smart Pilates reformer, as it seeks to strengthen its foothold in the fitness market. The acquisition comes as the connected fitness brand looks to diversify beyond cardio, where it has seen a decline of 218,000 hardware members in the last quarter alone.
Skōp’s equipment, which retails for $8,000, tracks various metrics such as weight distribution and movement tempo, thus appealing to a growing interest in functional training. The brand has made strides in commercial markets, partnering with boutiques and physiotherapy clinics.
As Peloton pivots towards strength and wellness, it aims to leverage Skōp's technology and expertise to enhance its content offerings, especially following a significant increase in engagement for its mat Pilates classes, which surged by 48% year-over-year. However, Peloton faces stiff competition, as other companies like iFIT and Technogym also enter the connected reformer space.
