Esh-Tech, an emerging defense startup from Israel, is set to showcase its innovative DroneLight laser defense system at the Eurosatory exposition. This technology is designed to counter unmanned aerial vehicles, a growing concern in modern warfare as nations like Israel face multiple threats.
The DroneLight system operates with a pulsed laser that consumes only 4 kilowatts of energy. Erex Riahi, CEO of Esh-Tech, emphasized that this approach offers a significant cost advantage, being three to four times less expensive than existing laser or microwave systems. In contrast, other systems, such as Rafael Advanced Defense Systems' LiteBeam, require 10 kilowatts.
Riahi explained that the pulsed laser technology allows for rapid engagement, delivering energy in short bursts to effectively disable targets, akin to making bullet-like impacts with light. The system is adaptable for use against both plastic and metal drones and has been engineered to identify atmospheric conditions that enhance its operational range by as much as 100 percent.
As the need for effective counter-drone capabilities intensifies, Esh-Tech aims to provide a solution that combines high effectiveness with low energy consumption, marking a significant advancement in defense technology.
