Microsoft’s EVP and consumer chief marketing officer, Yusuf Mehdi, has announced plans to depart the company after a final year of service. At 59, Mehdi has been with Microsoft for 35 years, influencing the development of products from Windows 3.1 to Copilot. His announcement came during a Thursday interview where he described this next year as his “final season.”
Mehdi is dedicated to ensuring a smooth transition, collaborating closely with CEO Satya Nadella and CMO Takeshi Numoto to establish succession plans. While no successor has been named yet, he emphasized that establishing a new leadership structure is still under consideration. His upcoming priorities include enhancing Windows for the evolving digital landscape, integrating Microsoft Copilot into daily tasks, and expanding the Microsoft 365 consumer user base, which is nearing 100 million subscriptions.
Reflecting on his career, Mehdi noted that his journey began as an intern in 1991, and he has contributed to nearly every major consumer product launched by Microsoft. Although he has not outlined specific post-Microsoft plans, he expressed enthusiasm for future opportunities while emphasizing his commitment to his role until departure.
