Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn and a member of Microsoft’s board since 2017, has announced he will not seek re-election at the company’s upcoming annual meeting in 2026. His decision was conveyed to Microsoft on June 2 through a filing with the SEC, and he will continue to serve until that meeting.
Hoffman’s departure from the board follows three years of opposition from the National Legal and Policy Center, which urged shareholders to reject his re-election due to his political activities. Despite this, he was re-elected by shareholders, with the most recent vote occurring in December 2025. Microsoft expressed gratitude for his contributions to the board.
In a recent episode of his podcast, Hoffman mentioned his desire to return to a startup environment to focus on Manas AI, a cancer drug-discovery company he co-founded. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella expressed his appreciation for Hoffman’s service and interest in his next ventures.
