In a nod to America’s 250th birthday, McDonald’s is reviving its fried apple pies, a menu item absent for over thirty years. Starting on June 23, these pies will be available at most locations across the United States for a limited period.
The original fried apple pie was launched in 1968, the same year the iconic Big Mac was introduced. The decision to replace the fried version with a baked alternative occurred in 1992, reflecting changing consumer preferences regarding dietary health. Despite this shift, the fried variant has remained popular in some international markets.
As part of the celebration, McDonald’s joins other fast food chains offering special treats. For example, Burger King has introduced a Firecracker Cookie Pie, while Sonic is selling a red, white, and blue slush float priced at $2.50. Additionally, a giant fried apple pie, standing at 35 feet tall, will be erected on Route 66 in Joliet, Illinois, to commemorate the occasion.
