A recent study indicates a significant shift in consumer perception regarding luxury vehicles, with over 80% of respondents prioritizing comfort, tech, and performance over brand prestige. Conducted by Burson Insights in February 2026, the survey involved 1,000 U.S. vehicle owners who made purchases in the last five years.
This shift suggests that the traditional distinction between luxury and non-luxury cars is becoming less pronounced. While legacy brands have long been associated with high-end features, many buyers now express a preference for vehicles that fulfill their specific needs rather than merely flaunting a prestigious nameplate. An impressive 93% of participants indicated they would choose a vehicle that meets their requirements over one simply known for its brand.
Furthermore, 76% of those surveyed believe the additional cost associated with luxury vehicles is no longer justified. As a result, there is a rising trend toward "smart luxury," where mainstream models deliver premium qualities without exorbitant prices, reflecting evolving consumer values and preferences in the automotive market.
