Lotus is set to reintroduce internal combustion engines (ICE) into its lineup after previously committing to electric vehicles. This shift comes as the company, under Geely ownership, has unveiled its Focus 2030 initiative, which will incorporate hybrid, electric, and ICE technologies. The hybrid segment will take precedence, featuring the new Hybrid-X technology that debuted in the Eletre X, a performance-oriented SUV.
Anticipated for release in 2028, the Type 135 supercar will showcase a hybrid V8 engine with an impressive output of 986 horsepower. Meanwhile, Lotus plans to announce an update to its last gas-powered model, the Emira, aimed at meeting growing consumer demand for traditional sports cars. The updated Emira is promised to be the "most powerful and lightest" version produced.
Lotus has adjusted its sales targets significantly, cutting its goal from 150,000 units annually to 30,000 units, as it seeks to achieve sustained profitability. Despite annual sales sometimes dipping below 10,000 units, the company remains hopeful that consolidating its UK and Chinese operations will enhance its innovation capacity.
