As Seattle prepares for the FIFA World Cup, Lime is poised to enhance its services to accommodate an expected surge in ridership. The company, which operates exclusively in the city's bike- and scooter-share program, has a fleet encompassing 15,000 devices, including 700 newly launched LimeBikes. In the first quarter of this year, Lime recorded a significant increase in usage, with 2.3 million rides, a rise of approximately 50% from the prior year.
Located in a large warehouse in Georgetown, Lime is undertaking maintenance on its existing fleet while readying new offerings to support the influx of visitors. The company anticipates that the World Cup events could match or surpass its highest ridership day, which occurred during the Super Bowl championship parade, generating over 60,000 trips.
To further enhance user experience during the busy summer, Lime will introduce valet parking services for the first time in the city. This service will allow staff to end rides for users who may struggle with cell service in congested areas around the stadium. “This allows our team to actually end the ride for you,” noted Brent Vigneault, the general manager. Lime aims to assist both residents and visitors in navigating the city effectively during this major event.
