Impulse Space has secured a significant $500 million in a Series D funding round aimed at expanding its workforce by up to 200 new employees. This investment, led by 137 Ventures and BANNER VC, includes contributions from Founders Fund, Lux Capital, and Linse Capital, highlighting growing investor enthusiasm for the space and defense sectors amid increased government spending on national security.
Focused on in-space mobility, Impulse is developing the Mira platform, which is targeted at the U.S. Space Force, and the Helios vehicle, designed for quick satellite transportation to higher orbits. President and COO Eric Romo emphasized the importance of this funding in enabling the company to enhance its vehicle development and testing capabilities, particularly as aerospace talent becomes increasingly competitive.
Romo, a former engineer at SpaceX, noted the limitations of current AI tools for hardware design, citing challenges in acquiring the necessary training data. To adapt to the evolving market, Impulse has broadened its expertise beyond propulsion and opened a new office in Colorado to attract top engineering talent. The company is also preparing for another launch of its Mira spacecraft in the near future.
