A coalition of over 600 companies in Japan is pushing for further regulatory changes following recent updates to the App Store rules. The changes, announced by Apple last December, aimed to comply with the nation's Mobile Software Competition Act (MSCA) by allowing developers to link users to off-app promotions and offer alternative payment methods.
Despite these modifications, seven IT-related industry groups argue that new commission structures, which include fees up to 15% on web-based transactions, have not provided a viable option for developers. They claim the current directives lack economic incentives and are urging the creation of a more competitive market with varied payment choices.
The recent statement from these groups follows a previous criticism issued by the Mobile Content Forum on January 29, highlighting ongoing dissatisfaction with Apple's and Google's practices. This latest appeal aims to encourage the Japan Fair Trade Commission to reassess the situation, potentially leading to further regulatory actions.
