In June, Apple will close three retail locations in the U.S., specifically in Trumbull, Connecticut; Escondido, California; and Towson, Maryland. This decision follows a trend of declining conditions in the shopping malls housing these stores, which have seen significant retailer departures, including notable brands like Banana Republic and Tommy Bahama.
Apple stated that the closures were made after careful evaluation of existing locations to better serve customer needs. Employees at the Trumbull and North County stores will be reassigned to nearby Apple locations, while Towson staff may apply for other roles in accordance with their union agreement.
These retail closures come after the owner of Trumbull Mall defaulted on a $150 million loan, with the property now for sale. The mall previously known as Mershops North County was also sold due to similar issues. Despite these closures, Apple continues to expand globally, having opened 11 new stores recently.
