Amazon has announced plans to reduce its workforce by 84 positions in Washington state, a decision described as part of normal business operations rather than linked to the larger corporate layoffs disclosed earlier. The company explained that such adjustments are routine and not related to the 14,000 layoffs it revealed in October.
This reduction is in compliance with a recent state law requiring employers to report terminations within 90 days of prior notices under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. Affected employees, notified since early November, will experience separations scheduled between February 2 and February 23, 2026, across various roles including software developers and HR specialists.
Amazon spokesperson Brad Glasser emphasized that the company provides extensive support to impacted workers, including 90 days of pay, benefits, and job placement services. The company also indicated that those who secure internal transfers before the layoff date will retain their jobs.
Previously, CEO Andy Jassy announced a broader initiative to streamline operations, which could see total layoffs reaching 30,000, surpassing the previous year's reductions. The latest cuts follow a notable number of layoffs in Washington state, totaling over 2,300 in the earlier round.
