Amazon is facing a class action lawsuit in Seattle, with customers demanding refunds for increased product prices attributed to tariffs. The legal action alleges that the company profited significantly, reportedly "hundreds of millions of dollars," from these tariff costs, which were deemed unlawful by a recent US Supreme Court ruling.
The lawsuit claims that Amazon has not initiated the refund process, despite being legally entitled to do so. Customers argue that the company is prioritizing its relationship with the federal government over returning the funds to consumers. According to the suit, "Amazon has not returned any portion of those costs it passed on to consumers, and it has no intention of doing so."
In contrast, shipping companies such as DHL, FedEx, and UPS have begun the process of obtaining refunds and plan to pass those funds on to affected customers. Other businesses, including Nintendo, have taken more drastic steps, filing lawsuits against the US government regarding tariff payments. Amazon has been contacted for a response regarding the lawsuit.
