As part of a recent agreement, Einride will integrate 75 of its electric heavy-duty trucks into Amazon’s Relay freight network. This initiative marks a significant opportunity for the Swedish startup to establish a presence within the e-commerce giant’s logistics framework. Under this deal, Einride will also implement charging infrastructure at five locations across the United States, though Amazon will neither purchase nor operate the trucks.
Einride will retain ownership and management of the trucks, utilizing its proprietary Saga AI software for operations. Roozbeh Charli, CEO of Einride, emphasized that partnering with Amazon validates the startup's technological advancements and strategic objectives. The company operates a fleet of approximately 200 electric trucks for various clients, including Heineken and PepsiCo, while also developing autonomous pod-like vehicles.
This agreement arrives as Einride prepares for a public listing through a merger with Legato Merger Corp.. Although this partnership may not significantly impact Amazon, which boasts a market capitalization of $2.7 trillion, it aligns with the company’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. An Amazon representative highlighted that this rollout is a crucial advancement in their efforts to electrify heavy-duty trucking.
