Amazon Leo, the satellite broadband initiative formerly known as Project Kuiper, has successfully deployed 304 satellites through 11 launches as part of its effort to provide global internet access. The company plans to significantly increase its output, with a commitment to double the number of launches and satellites within the next year.
During a recent discussion at the Mission Operations Center in Redmond, Washington, Chris Weber, the vice president of business and product for Amazon Leo, highlighted the project's progress and upcoming plans. Although specific dates for the launch of commercial service to individual customers have not been disclosed, Weber assured that the rollout is imminent, with operations planned for both the northern and southern hemispheres.
Weber, who joined Amazon Leo from GitLab in 2024, expressed excitement about the branding, including the project's distinctive krypton color. Currently, the service is being offered on a limited basis to select enterprise customers, but broader availability is expected soon as the satellite network continues to expand.
