Approximately two dozen protesters gathered outside the Amazon Spheres in Seattle on Thursday evening, demanding that the company cease providing technology to Israel, which they allege contributes to genocide in Gaza. The demonstration coincided with a gathering of Seattle business leaders and Australian parliamentarians, although Amazon contended that the event was not related to the protest's accusations.
The group, known as Amazon Worker Intifada, aimed to heighten pressure on Amazon's leadership regarding its contract with Israel, specifically referencing Project Nimbus. This $1.2 billion project, awarded to Amazon and Google in 2021, involves supplying cloud and AI services to the Israeli government, including military applications.
Protesters arrived at the Spheres around 6 p.m., brandishing signs and chanting slogans like, “Say it loud and say it clear — Amazon’s a war profiteer.” They also utilized drums and noisemakers to amplify their message, while balloons and Palestinian flags added to the visual impact of their demonstration.
Amazon’s spokesperson, Montana MacLachlan, expressed respect for peaceful demonstrations and reiterated the company's commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen in Washington and beyond.
