In a significant shift in the Fortune 500 rankings, Amazon has claimed the top position for the first time in 13 years, surpassing Walmart. The Seattle-based company achieved over $700 billion in revenue in 2025, marking a 12% increase compared to the previous year.
This change sees Walmart drop to No. 2, a position it has held since 2012. The Fortune 500 list, which includes major corporations such as UnitedHealth Group and Apple, collectively generated $21.0 trillion in revenue and $2.1 trillion in profits last year, employing more than 30.5 million people globally.
Amazon's first-quarter sales reached $181.5 billion, up 17%, with an operating income of $23.9 billion, reflecting a 30% increase. The company also experienced significant growth in its cloud segment, with Amazon Web Services growing by 28%, its highest rate in almost four years.
Additionally, Microsoft climbed to No. 11, achieving its best ranking yet, while Alphabet maintained its status as the most profitable company with record earnings of $132 billion.
