Microsoft has announced several initiatives aimed at enhancing the user experience for its Windows operating system. Among the commitments made by Pavan Davuluri, Executive Vice President of Windows + Devices, are improvements in system performance, greater customization of the taskbar, and the ability for users to postpone Windows Updates indefinitely.
In recent weeks, the company has taken steps to follow through on these promises. A recent update removed the controversial Copilot button from Notepad in a testing version, although the underlying AI code remains intact. Additionally, Microsoft is revamping its Windows Insider testing program by streamlining the channels and ceasing the rollout of new features based on random criteria. Upcoming meetups for Windows Insiders are also planned in various cities to gather direct user feedback.
This renewed focus on Windows comes amid speculation about external influences, such as competitive pressure from Apple's low-cost MacBook Neo. Observers are questioning the timing of these changes, particularly as Microsoft aims to attract more consumer customers alongside its enterprise base.
