Google Search users can now exclude AI Overviews from their search results by adding a simple modifier to their queries. By entering “-ai” at the end of a search term, individuals can revert to the traditional search format, which features the original “10 blue links.”
This method provides a workaround for those who prefer not to see AI-generated content, although it is not a permanent fix. Modifiers, also referred to as operators, have long been a part of Google Search, allowing users to refine their search results effectively. For example, quotation marks can be used to find exact phrases, illustrating the range of adjustments available.
Google has stated that AI Overviews are intended as an integral feature of its search functionality, similar to Featured Snippets and Knowledge Panels. Despite some criticism, the tech giant continues to expand its offerings, including the recent introduction of a “Web” filter and the expansion of “Preferred Sources” to enhance user experience.
