Epic Games is set to enhance its launcher significantly, aiming for a version that is five times faster at cold starts and 6.5 times faster when retrieving the app from the system tray. This announcement follows an admission from an Epic executive earlier this year that the current launcher has substantial flaws.
During a presentation at Unreal Fest, Epic outlined its plans for Launcher V2, which will undergo a private beta phase prior to its public launch. Although specific release dates have not been disclosed, a previous communication indicated that the company is actively working on substantial improvements, with a target to roll out upgrades this summer.
Additionally, Epic aims to enhance its storefront with features such as in-store patch notes, player reviews, quick-access categories, and a personalized homepage, as highlighted in the presentation materials shared by LuKaOnIndeed. This initiative follows feedback from gamers who have often resorted to using Steam to access free games from the Epic Games Store, citing the current launcher's sluggish performance.
