Apple is anticipated to release its new operating systems in the coming months, including iOS 27 and macOS 27. Reports suggest that the upcoming updates will primarily emphasize performance enhancements and stability, rather than significant changes to the existing design features, particularly Liquid Glass. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman noted that while there may be minor adjustments, no major redesigns are expected.
Since the introduction of iOS 26, several customization options have been added for Liquid Glass, including a ‘Tinted’ option and the ability to disable highlights. Following the departure of design lead Alan Dye to Meta last year, Steve Lemay has taken over the design responsibilities. Despite hopes for fresh direction under new leadership, major changes to Liquid Glass are not on the horizon.
Gurman mentioned that Apple had been working on a systemwide slider for Liquid Glass during the development of iOS 26, which could allow users to adjust the glass effect more precisely. However, engineering challenges have hindered its implementation across the entire system. If successful, this feature could significantly alter user interaction with Liquid Glass in iOS 27.
