Yong Tai Loong has become a significant player in Singapore's construction sector, supplying essential fixtures for public housing. Originating as a modest family business, it was founded by Yong Teng Long, who began his journey in the industry as a tin factory apprentice. Today, the company operates multiple factories and supplies to over 100 construction firms.
Established around 1958 or 1959, Yong Tai Loong initially focused on crafting copper urns and metal items from a small workshop on Jalan Sultan. The company soon transitioned to producing aluminium doors, which aligned with the growing demand for housing solutions in Singapore. The Housing & Development Board's formation in 1960 aimed to address a pressing housing crisis, solidifying Yong Tai Loong's role in the nation’s development.
Despite its significant contributions over the past sixty years, Yong Tai Loong remains relatively unknown to the general public. Its products, such as bathroom doors and metal gates, are common fixtures in HDB flats across Singapore, reflecting the company's vital impact on the country's built environment.
