The conversational AI landscape is set to evolve with the launch of the new iOS app from Sesame, an AI startup co-founded by former Oculus leaders, on Thursday. This public preview introduces a fresh approach that aims to enhance the interaction experience, moving beyond traditional chatbots like ChatGPT.
Sesame's AI technology enables its agents to conduct multiple searches simultaneously, allowing for a more human-like conversation that incorporates real-time information. The app features four distinct agents—Maya, Miles, Simone, and Charlie—each designed with unique personalities and voices.
During its beta phase, which followed a successful $250 million Series B funding round led by Sequoia, the company gained valuable insights from user feedback, leading to new features such as search cards, a private incognito mode, and a texting option. Looking ahead, Sesame plans to expand its capabilities, including the development of intelligent eyewear expected to launch in 2027 and the potential for agents to perform actions on users' behalf.
