With four wins at the 79th Tony Awards, the Broadway adaptation of Schmigadoon! has propelled Apple TV into the prestigious EGOT club, joining Netflix as a winner across all four major American entertainment awards. The adaptation garnered awards for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Orchestrations, out of a total of twelve nominations.
Apple TV achieved this milestone with a significantly shorter timeline than Netflix, which took over a decade to reach EGOT status. Apple’s journey began with its first Emmy wins for The Morning Show in 2020, culminating in the recent Tony wins for Schmigadoon!. The show, which premiered in 2021 and concluded in 2023, had previously completed two successful seasons.
Despite the decision not to proceed with a third season, which creator Cinco Paul confirmed in January 2024, there remains a glimmer of hope for fans, as discussions about a potential revival have occurred. The Tony wins may reignite interest in bringing the beloved series back to life.
