The recent closure of PizzaExpress locations at Millenia Walk and Scotts Square has reduced the British pizza chain's operational footprint in Singapore to just two outlets. The franchise announced that both restaurants ceased operations on December 31, 2025, with only the stores at Duo Galleria (Bugis) and The Star Vista remaining open.
PizzaExpress, which launched its first Singapore outlet in 2016 at Scotts Square, had recently opened the Millenia Walk location in January 2025. This outlet was its latest addition but struggled to maintain viability. The company has faced financial challenges globally, having previously announced plans to close 15% of its UK restaurants in 2020 due to significant debt of £735 million (approximately S$1.3 billion).
The broader context shows that Singapore's food and beverage sector is currently under pressure, with a record 3,047 F&B businesses closing in 2024 alone. Many of these closures are attributed to unprofitability, highlighting the tough environment even for established chains like PizzaExpress.
