OpenAI has acquired the startup Torch, which specializes in streamlining medical information, for an estimated equity value of $100 million. The four-person team from Torch will integrate into OpenAI and contribute to the newly launched ChatGPT Health, a service designed to help users analyze and manage their health data.
Torch developed technology aimed at consolidating various medical records into a cohesive platform for AI applications. This innovation allows users to unify information from sources including medical visits, lab tests, and wellness assessments. Torch co-founder Ilya Abyzov noted that the team originated from Forward Health, a company that previously focused on AI-driven healthcare but ceased operations in late 2024 after securing over $400 million in funding.
With this acquisition, OpenAI aims to expand the capabilities of its health-related services, enhancing the utility of the ChatGPT platform for users seeking to manage their health effectively.
