OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, is currently engaged in negotiations for a deal that could value it at over $850 billion. This comes as the firm reportedly eyes a public offering within the year, possibly competing with Anthropic, a significant rival that has also announced intentions to go public.
Numerous alumni from OpenAI have transitioned to launch their own startups, with some securing substantial funding despite having yet to release products. For instance, Adept AI Labs, co-founded by David Luan, recently achieved a valuation exceeding $1 billion following a $350 million funding round in 2023.
Additionally, Anthropic, founded by Dario and Daniela Amodei after their departure from OpenAI, has become a formidable competitor. The company recently obtained a $30 billion Series G round, bringing its valuation to $380 billion. Meanwhile, the latest venture from former OpenAI employees, Applied Compute, has raised $20 million to develop its offerings.
