Approximately 1,395 jobs are set to be eliminated by Meta in Washington state, representing around 20% of its workforce in the region. This decision is part of a broader strategy where the company aims to cut 8,000 positions globally to focus on artificial intelligence initiatives.
The layoffs will primarily affect the Bellevue office in the Spring District, with nearly 700 employees losing their jobs. Additional cuts include approximately 215 at the Dexter Avenue office, 206 in Redmond, 44 at another Seattle location, and around 231 remote workers throughout the state. The layoffs are scheduled to take effect on July 22.
Details regarding the layoffs were outlined in a filing with the Washington state Employment Security Department. Meta previously indicated in an internal memo that these reductions are part of efforts to enhance efficiency and address significant investments in AI infrastructure, which may reach $145 billion in capital expenditures this year.
