Effective March, Josh D’Amaro will take over as the new CEO of Disney, following a unanimous decision by the company's board. D’Amaro, who has been with the organization for 28 years, currently serves as chairman of Disney Experiences and has managed various sectors including theme parks and consumer products.
This leadership transition follows the tumultuous tenure of Bob Chapek, who succeeded Bob Iger in 2020 but stepped down in 2022. Iger, who has been with Disney since 2005, returned to lead the company during a challenging period. In 2023, a committee was created to identify a suitable successor, with Iger playing a role in mentoring potential candidates.
Under Iger's leadership, Disney made several pivotal decisions, including the launch of the Disney+ streaming service and the acquisition of companies like Hulu and 20th Century Fox’s film and television studios. After his retirement at the end of the year, Iger will remain involved as a board member and senior advisor.
