Over eight million Thermos bottles and jars are under recall due to a defect that may cause them to eject violently when opened. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Thermos LLC announced the recall, which affects approximately 5.8 million food jars and 2.5 million beverage bottles sold across the nation from 2008 to 2024.
The recalled items include models SK3000 and SK30020 of the Stainless King food jar and model SK3010 of the Sportsman bottle. Users have reported a total of 27 injuries linked to these products, with some cases resulting in permanent vision loss.
The defect arises from a missing pressure relief mechanism in the stopper, which can lead to dangerous pressure buildup. Consumers are advised to cease usage immediately. Those with the Stainless King food jar can receive a replacement stopper, while owners of the Sportsman model are entitled to a different product. Thermos will provide prepaid shipping labels for the return of the Sportsman bottles.
