Canva has announced the acquisition of two startups, enhancing its capabilities in creative tools. The dual acquisition includes UK-based Cavalry, specializing in 2D motion animation across various sectors, and Mango AI, focused on improving advertising performance through reinforcement learning.
With the addition of Cavalry, Canva aims to integrate motion editing into its professional suite, Affinity, which has seen over five million downloads since its revamp last year. The company emphasized that this move will complete its offering by bridging the gap in motion editing capabilities.
Mango AI, founded by former Netflix executives Nirmal Govind and Vinith Misra, will contribute to Canva's marketing products. Govind will take on the role of Canva's first Chief Algorithms Officer. This acquisition follows Canva's earlier purchase of the marketing intelligence startup Magicbrief and the introduction of Canva Grow, a tool for asset creation and performance measurement.
