Netflix has taken a significant step in enhancing its production capabilities by acquiring InterPositive, an AI startup founded by actor and filmmaker Ben Affleck. This acquisition will bring all 16 employees from InterPositive, which specializes in tools for film and television production, into the Netflix fold. Affleck will also join the company as a senior adviser, further integrating his expertise into the streaming service.
The motivation behind the founding of InterPositive in 2022 stemmed from Affleck's observations of the evolving role of AI in film production. He aimed to create technology that aligns more closely with the needs of cinematographers and directors, ensuring that human creativity remains central in the production process. His team’s technology focuses on processing raw production footage to facilitate a smoother post-production workflow, allowing filmmakers to enhance their projects with greater efficiency.
Affleck emphasized that InterPositive’s tools enable quicker and more effective manipulation of visual elements, such as adjusting backgrounds and refining shots. This innovation is positioned to assist filmmakers in elevating their creative work while streamlining production timelines.
