This year, Apple has initiated price reductions on its iPhone 17 Pro series ahead of the 618 shopping festival in China, with discounts starting at 1,000 yuan (approximately $146). JD.com, a leading online retailer, is offering even deeper reductions, allowing some iPhone 17 Pro models to be purchased for as low as 6,999 yuan. This price point marks the lowest since the series was introduced.
Historically significant, the 618 shopping festival is a major online retail event that has expanded from its origins as a JD.com anniversary sale to encompass various e-commerce platforms across China. In the previous year, Apple participated by providing limited-time trade-in offers, which contributed to a rebound in iPhone sales after a decline in Q1 2025.
The standard iPhone 17 also saw its first major price reduction since its launch, with some models now available at 4,499 yuan following various discounts and trade-in incentives. An Apple employee in Beijing noted that the latest discounts can be combined with other promotional offers, leading to some models being sold at their lowest prices since release.
