Anthropic has acquired the New York-based startup Stainless, known for its software that automates the creation of software development kits (SDKs). This acquisition is expected to significantly impact its competitors, as the technology will now be exclusive to Anthropic. While the financial details of the deal were not disclosed, reports suggest it was valued at over $300 million.
Founded in 2022 by former Stripe engineer Alex Rattray, Stainless has gained attention in the AI sector for its ability to streamline SDK maintenance, which is crucial for developers interfacing with APIs. Anthropic plans to discontinue all hosted products of Stainless, but assures that existing customers retain ownership of their generated SDKs and can modify them as needed.
Rattray noted that the collaboration with Anthropic has been a natural fit, as their technology has been a cornerstone for every official Anthropic SDK since the beginning. The acquisition not only consolidates Anthropic's capabilities but also restricts access to a vital tool for its rivals, including OpenAI and Google.
