Amazon plans to close its remaining Amazon Go and Amazon Fresh physical stores as part of a strategic shift in its grocery business. The company will transform some of these locations into Whole Foods Market stores, while focusing on enhancing its delivery services and expanding its Whole Foods presence.
In the upcoming years, Amazon intends to open over 100 new Whole Foods Market locations. Additionally, the company is exploring the introduction of new store formats, including a potential "supercenter" concept that would stock a wide range of products, from groceries to household items.
Despite the closure of its physical grocery outlets, Amazon's Just Walk Out technology remains operational in various third-party establishments, such as sports arenas and hospital cafeterias. Furthermore, Amazon is committed to assisting employees from the closed stores in finding new positions within the company.
