The first quarter of 2026 saw a remarkable surge in venture capital investment, with a record total of $300 billion allocated to approximately 6,000 startups worldwide. This figure represents a more than 150% increase compared to both the previous quarter and the same period last year, marking a historic high for global venture funding.
A significant portion of this investment was directed towards **AI** startups, which accounted for around 80% of the total funding in the quarter, amounting to $242 billion. Major funding rounds included prominent U.S. firms such as OpenAI, which raised $122 billion, and Anthropic, securing $30 billion. Collectively, the top four funding rounds in Q1 2026 comprised $188 billion, representing a substantial 65% of overall venture capital in that period.
Moreover, 83% of global venture capital, totaling $250 billion, was raised by U.S.-based companies, a significant rise from 71% in Q1 2025. China followed as the second-largest market with $16.1 billion in investments, while the U.K. also participated in the growing venture funding landscape.
