Executives highlighted that many companies might turn to outsourcing their AI infrastructure needs due to the high costs associated with maintaining on-premises solutions. Abhishek Sandhir, managing director of Sand Corporation, noted the industry's tendency to prioritize the upkeep of existing broadband services over allocating budgets for new technology investments. This trend underscores a broader challenge faced by various sectors in balancing immediate financial responsibilities with the necessity for innovation.
Alec Mulonga, general manager of technology at Mobile Telephone Networks, remarked on the pressure telecom operators are experiencing to improve AI capabilities while managing capital expenditures. He suggested that partnerships with cloud service providers could present a practical solution, allowing firms to access advanced AI tools without hefty initial costs. Chika Ekeji, chief executive of MTN-i, supported this view, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in enhancing technological capabilities within the industry.
