Microsoft has announced a substantial price hike for its Surface product line, impacting various models available on its official store. The base model of the 15-inch Surface Laptop 7 is now priced at $1,600, up from $1,300 at its launch in 2024, marking an increase of $100 since last year's adjustment. Upgrading the device can lead to even steeper costs, with a high-end configuration reaching $3,650.
The price escalation extends to the Surface Pro series, where the 12-inch model now begins at $1,050, a rise from its initial $800 price. The flagship 13-inch Surface Pro has seen a significant increase from $1,000 to $1,500 over two years. Microsoft attributed these adjustments to rising component costs driven by demand from generative AI technologies.
Other manufacturers like Motorola and Samsung have also raised prices across their product lines, with Motorola's Moto G series experiencing similar increases. The price of the PS5 has also risen since its launch, although Sony has not directly linked this to RAM costs, citing broader economic factors instead.
